History

Ali Nihat Gökyiğit started a planting and reforestation programme on islands of land formed by a major motorway intersection to commemorate his late wife, Nezahat Gökyiğit . First, the soil, (which had been destroyed by the road construction) was improved, then approximately 50,000 trees and shrubs were planted in the 32 hectare area. Officially opened to the public in 2002 as a Memorial Park, in 2003 it became the Nezahat Gökyiğit Botanik Bahçesi (NGBB).
